Louee Weekend

The annual BHJMTC trip to Louee has been done and dusted for 2006. From those I spoke to, a great weekend was had by all, the weather was great, the riding was great, and the injury count was low - couple of ribs, a broken foot, a few stitches and the occasional graze or bruise. We have already begun the planning for next year and hope to be able to run at least two Louee weekends.

The only sad note was that John Payne had to explain to the kids on Sunday morning that he had gambled away all their sugar.....those poor kids.....

Baulkham Hills Championships Report

What a day. From the cold and rain of the previous ride day, to the extreme heat and wind of our championships, mother nature has been turning it on for the club this year.

Despite the weather, once again our club hosted a successful interclub championship. With almost 200 riders the day ran like clockwork, with most riders finishing their events between 3:00pm and 4:00pm, no injuries and good reports from parents all round.

A big well done to the 48 riders from our club who competed and congratulations to the 14 riders who took home trophies and the many more who won individual ribbons. The efforts of our kids meant that once again our kids were able to retain our club trophy.

A huge thanks to all those parents and siblings who helped to make the day a success for the club. Some special mention must go to

  • Ross & Glenda "should have run milk bar" Woodley for the huge effort in organising and running the canteen

  • Wayne, Ross and Paul for providing security on Saturday night. Who knows what the boys got up to...

  • Mel "could sell ice to the eskimos" McClintock for the massive effort in fund raising and sponsorship

  • All those who helped out on the working bees prior to the day getting the complex ready (including Wayne, Steve and Lou Raburski from BMBC for providing tractors and bobcats)

  • All the mums (and some kids) who worked the canteen on the day

  • Riverstone Bush Fire Brigade who did their best to keep the dust down

  • and finally all in the committee who worked tirelessly to organise all aspects of the championships

Note: apologies if I have forgotten anybody...I think the dust is still affecting my brain

Lets not forget all those generous local business who provided sponsorship or donations on the day. The best way to repay sponsors is to use their services where possible

Update on track licensing issues

Rain, Rain go away....I know we need the rain, but unfortunately it is preventing us doing some crucial maintenance on the 85'ds track.

Following our most recent inspection (2 weeks ago) it was determined that in order to get the track up to the standards required by MNSW we need to bring in some heavy equipment to re-align parts of the track. The re-alignment will include the filling in of a couple of dams, and the moving of parts of the track to increase the distance between parts of the track. This will prevent the need for building the Great Wall on China or of old dunlops...Its a big effort, though should stand us in good stead for coming years.

Last week our club held a committee meeting that was attended by members of the Blacktown committee. The key decisions from that meeting were as follows

  • BHJMTC would arrange for the heavy equipment required on the track

  • BMBC would arrange for additional bobcats to do some of the clean up around the track, both before and after the heavy equipment

  • Both clubs would contribute additional manpower to do some of the manual labour.

The current status is as follows -

  • BMBC held a working bee last weekend on both Saturday and Sunday and accomplished many of the smaller tasks

  • Weather permitting we will have an excavator and drot at the track on Friday to do much of the major work

  • There will be a combined working bee held this Saturday to complete the remainder of the manual tasks

  • Following the completion of these tasks we hope to have the track re-inspected (and passed) in time for our next ride day on the 13th August

Any assistance on Saturday 10am - 2:00pm would be appreciated
