about the club

Baulkham Hills Junior Motorcycle Training Club Inc. was founded in the late 1960's and was located at the Commercial Road grounds from 1971 to 2003. Negotiations with Baulkham Hills council are currently underway to construct new grounds following the closure of the Commercial Road site. The club is currently utilising the ground of Blacktown Mini Bike Club for its events.

BHJMTC is a club run by parents for their kids. BHJMTC has developed into one of NSW's top Minikhana clubs with well over 200 registered riders.

The club follows the strict guidelines set down by the sports governing bodies Motorcycling NSW and Motorcycling Australia to allow a safe training and riding environment for the Members. All riders must have their own bikes. The Club does NOT have hire bikes.

ABOUT THE SPORT

Minikhana provides entry to the sport of motorcycling riding. Its focus is on training children in the art of controlling a motorcycle. Through the tightly controlled program of activities that includes Motocross and technical “witches hat” events, the children gain the skills to become safer riders in all disciplines.

Minikhana is a training ground that children pass through prior to competing in open class racing. For example, in all events, children race in maximum of four riders on the track at any one time. They must learn to stay wholly within their lanes at the starts, and they must learn the meaning of the safety flags. All of this is done before venturing out into open motocross or other disciplines where many rides may fight for position in to that important first turn.

The Aims of Minikhana Motorcycling are

v      To provide an environment in which riders can learn motorcycling skills and participate in organised competition.

v      The development of riding skills and techniques is emphasised through the primary requirement of the rider to complete an event correctly before a place is awarded.

v      Skill, rather than speed, is the determining factor in many events.

v      To provide a safe and enjoyable environment where riders with a common interest can meet and develop friendships.

v      To provide a venue where riders can legally ride under adult supervision.

RULES and CLUB DISCIPLINE

Motorcycling can be dangerous, and as such, the emphasis on safety and discipline at BHJMTC is second to none. With riders as young as 4 competing we cannot afford to tolerate breaches of discipline. All riding and competition is conducted according to the rules set out by MA and include such things as –

v     Riders must be licensed by Motorcycling NSW (MNSW) to compete. Licences can only be obtained after successfully completing a training program and a written test.

v      Bikes and safety gear must be subject to scrutineering prior to competition.

v      Riders must attend riders briefing prior to competition

v      All tracks and event areas are fenced. Only licensed competitors and officials are allowed within fenced areas.

v     All tracks and event areas inspected and licensed by Department of Sport and Recreation, MNSW and Police and emergency services.

v      A permit from MNSW is required for every official riding event (competition or practice)

v      Qualified first aid is available on-site for each ride day (St Johns Ambulance or Red Cross)

CALENDAR

The latest calendar is available on the website. The club calendar generally operates as follows -

v      Minikhana - BHJMTC operates the year on a 2-term basis, with each term consisting of 5-8 points  days. A trophy presentation is held at the end of each term.

v      Junior Motocross – iBHJMTC conducts an annual motocross only series. The series will consist of around 4 rounds at different venues throughout the year, the Motocross series will run independently of the minikhana series.

v      Championships – Each of the 7 minikhana clubs in the greater Sydney area will host a round of the state Minikhana championships. Each championship will attract well over 200 riders and provide a great opportunity for kids to compete both for their club and against kids from other clubs

The club runs regardless of inclement weather, although restricts riding on extremely hots days in the interest of safety.

RISK MANAGEMENT and SAFETY

Minikhana is controlled by the rules set out by Motorcycling Australia (MA). MA has established rules of operation for the sport. Those rules operate under the same umbrella as does any other form of motorcycling competition in Australia.

Officials are required to undertake formal training with MA to ensure they are equipped with the correct skills to determine that the motorcycles, the venue and the conduct of events comply with the guidelines that have been established to provide for a safe and fair environment for the children to learn in.

The club and sport also undertake risk management activities to ensure that the risks are appropriately dealt with before they have a negative impact.

The venue and tracks are subject to licensing by MA. They are inspected as part of the licensing requirements of the Police and Department of Sport and Recreation. Track licensing is annual with each ride day requiring a permit from MA.
